Technology - Could You Live Without It?

The increasing usage of technology has had a huge impact on our society and how we function as people. Even if we don't realize it, technology has started to dominate many parts of our lives. Some people love using technology and can't seem to put their devices down for even a second, while others despise it and prefer to do things themselves. Whatever your opinion is on technology, it doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon; everyday there are more technological breakthroughs and innovations ready for us to use to our advantage.
There are many benefits to using technology in our day-to-day lives. Our cellphones, for example, offer a vast range of tools that save us time when performing tasks. The most obvious of these tools is the internet. The internet gives us access to unlimited amounts of information that would normally be very difficult to find on our own. Any question we may have, any topic we want to research, can all be accessed quickly and effortlessly using the internet. Other tools cellphones and similar devices include are being able to set reminders, set alarms, calculate complicated equations, purchase items, and text or call friends and family in times of emergency. This list doesn't stop there either, thanks to software developers creating new applications everyday, there are practically no limits of what our technology can do for us.
Another benefit to technology that many people don't seem to realize is it's uses in entertainment. Entertainment has served an important role in human civilization for ages, boosting our moods and helping us cope with the stresses of life. Entertainment used to be hard to come-by, requiring us to put forth great amounts of effort to attend plays or concerts. Now, thanks to technology, the benefits of entertainment can be easily acquired by anyone from the comfort of their own homes, saving them time and precious energy. Devices such as radios, televisions, computers, and even cellphones and tablets can all be conveniently utilized for media consumption. Technology has also been responsible for new forms of entertainment, such as social media. Social media has allowed people from all over the world be able to contact and keep up with one another. It has served as a bonding tool for many and helps us stay connected to the world around us. Anything from movies, television shows, music, games, and more are now readily available to make our lives more fun and stress-free.
Given that technology has quickly grown to be such a dominant part of our culture and society, living without it could be rather difficult. Anything we would normally depend on technology to do for us, we would have to do ourselves. We would have to leave our houses to shop, write letters instead of emails, go to libraries to receive information, depend on newspapers for news, go out to theaters and other public areas for entertainment, and the list goes on. Even basic functions, such as hand-writing and reading would become more prevalent in society again. A life like this does seem like a huge burden, but it is by no means impossible.
To many, it may seem like a life without technology would be impossible to live in. Everyday, it supplies us with unlimited tools that were carefully created to make tasks simpler and less time consuming. Tasks such as researching through countless books and papers at a local library has now been replaced by a simple search from our own homes. It also provides us with endless forms of stress relief through games, shows, movies, music, and more. However, anything technology does for us can be done ourselves; we would just have to put in more time and effort to get through life.

  1. Decent blog, fulfills purpose but feels very basic. At only 626 words you definitely could have taken out more time to go deeper in some way. The blog sort of repeats the same information over and over, the topic about smart phone applications was used two or three times. Overall it just feels like you scratched the surface of what you were planning to go into but stopped and turned around and finished it. You said earlier that you felt like you did like "poo", I think this is what you are talking about . You needed to go deeper in this blog and I think that that would really improve its effectiveness and overall score. Band 4.

  2. Anthony, I agree with Marshall that it did feel a bit vague and you probably could have gone more in depth or touched on other aspects of technology that plays a role in everyday life. However, you did bring up interesting points, and I liked that you mentioned how we are able to use our devices for entertainment such as watching movies/shows, listening to music, etc. because I know that definitely plays a huge role in most of our lives or at least mine, and considering for the assignment your imaginary audience is high school students that would most likely appeal to their interests. I do still feel that you could have included much more, so I'd give you a band 4 or 5.

  3. Hello Anthony the wonderful wizard of wood, this is Brenden the merciless speaking. I think that it is a pretty decent blog, its not extremely good but its also not extremely bad. I will have to agree with Marshal and Ariel however when they say it is a bit vague because it really is. Also I feel like you could have added more given that you're word count is in the 600's. I also feel as if you repeated a lot of information which probably isn't what a grader wants to see. I still did enjoy reading it however which is a plus. Overall I would probably give this a band 4.

  4. Mr. Politi, this was a decent blog post and I think you touched on a lot of interesting points, especially the entertainment part which not many of us would have thought to mention. You do have words to spare so I will assume that you ran short on time, but some more elaboration could have benefited you. There is the topic of your audience. Your paper should be able to tell the readers who the intended audience is without actually saying it, so there is also something you can try to add if you want more words. I think if you had more time you really could have knocked this out of the park but ill have to give you a band four. Tell GiGi I said hi.

  5. Anthony,
This post is a band 5, for a main reason; you did not discuss anywhere in the paper what the disadvantages of technology are. One of the main differences in the AICE rubric between a band 5, and higher, is that the paper may be lacking in argument or development. Besides the exclusion of the opposing argument, your paper has a clear structure throughout the article, but conclusion is repetative, and drawn out. I loved the last sentence; "However, anything technology does for us can be done ourselves; we would just have to put in more time and effort to get through life," as it was a very effective way to conclude the post.

  6. I would give this a Band 5. In order to have a better sense of audience for a highschool newspaper, I would have tried to stick to scenarios such as waking up for school with an alarm, typing up research papers, and keeping in contact with parents. Also, you never discussed the problems that come with technology, so you didn't clearly address the prompt. The ugly out of the way, there was clear organization and structure, with paragraphs seperating each of your ideas. However, it seemed ideas were repeated at times, such as the alarm clock, Instead of just listing off things technology helps us with, I think you could have gone more in depth of why it is so important and why we couldn't or could live without it. There was clear purpose tp persuade and argue, but since you never commented on the other side, this couldn't be fully achieved.
